How the ID check works

A government ID and a live face check, about two minutes, with three tries.

The ID check shows employers your profile is really you. It takes about two minutes. You take photos of a government ID from our list. Then you do a short live face check with your camera.

Start from Home and tap the ID check. The first screen lists the IDs that work and asks for your OK before the camera opens. Nothing starts until you agree. Tap I do not agree to leave. Your account stays, and you can come back any time.

Before the face check, one screen asks you to face a light, take off hats and sunglasses, and hold the phone at eye level. The screen flashes bright colors during the check. The check starts only when you tap I'm ready.

No camera on this computer? Scan the code on the screen with your phone, or type the short address on it. Sign in there as yourself. We never text or email this link.

You get three tries in total. A try counts only when the face check runs. A photo the phone could not take, an ID the reader could not read, or a problem on our side uses no try.

Tries 1 and 2 are on your phone. Try 3 works best on a different phone, like a family member's newer phone. Sign in there as yourself. No other phone? Use the same one.

Can't do the camera check, or the face check is hard for you? Tap Ask for an In-person ID check, or I need help with this check. The face check is still needed, but we can change how it is done.

When you pass, the screen shows ID check passed and See your profile as employers see it. Employers and visitors can find you once your profile is done. Tap Hide me to stay hidden; you can still apply.
